Sub-teams

  • Aerodynamics

Runs computational fluid dynamics to test prospective airfoils and aerodynamic packages. Hands-on manufacturing of wings, stabilizers, and control surfaces. Computer-aided design to 3D print structures and CNC airfoils.

  • Business

Business operations: manage budgeting, procurement, and travel for competitions. Build and maintain partnerships, alumni relations, and community engagement. Oversee merchandise design, social media strategy, and event planning. Support organizational tasks and assist with reports and proposals.

  • Propulsion

R&D for the electronic propulsion system and avionics for the aircraft. Motor(s), batteries, and propeller(s): we test multiple combinations and select a propulsion configuration. Avionics: cutting and connection of control surfaces (e.g. flaps, ailerons), motor, battery, propeller testing, soldering, wiring, and running simulations.

  • Structures

Hands-on design and manufacturing of the aircraft’s fuselage and landing gear. Adjust and modify our designs to accommodate competition-specific goals and integration with other sub-teams. Working with composites - using fiberglass, Kevlar, and carbon fiber. 3D printing, manufacturing composite parts, endurance and strength testing, CAD and FEA analysis.

  • Systems

Manage the creation and acquisition of internal systems to meet diverse mission objectives utilizing CAD and innovative techniques to design and manufacture essential components for various projects.
